The choices you make today directly impacts your tomorrow. That is why our program seeks to inspire students to make healthy choices by presenting factual information on sexual health. We promote abstinence as the healthiest sexual decision that a student can make. Our program teaches Essential Standards from the NC Department of Public Instruction.
Our program has been in schools since 1995. Our mission has always been the same – to help students see the value and personal benefits for choosing abstinence. Formerly called “Worth Waiting 4” and “True 2 You,” Choices Matter is in 19 different schools in Nash, Edgecombe and Halifax counties. We present to over 3,000 students every school year. Our main focus is 7th and 9th grade students. We present this information through a conversation-based presentation.

Helping Families Build Healthy Futures
Choices Matter is an evidence-based sexual risk avoidance (SRA) program designed for 7th- and 9th-grade students in local public, private, and homeschool settings. Since 1995, the program has equipped students with the knowledge and confidence to make healthy, informed decisions about relationships and sexual health.
Through open conversation, factual information, and real-life examples, students learn how their choices today can shape their tomorrow. Our goal is to partner with parents, schools, and communities to help students understand that abstinence is the healthiest sexual decision and the only certain way to avoid the risks of unplanned pregnancy and STIs.
Each class meets Essential Standards from the NC Department of Public Instruction, including lessons on how family, peers, culture, and media influence decision-making.
Parents can be confident that Choices Matter:
• Promotes positive communication between students and their families.
• Encourages goal-setting, self-respect, and healthy relationships.
• Shares medically accurate, age-appropriate information.
• Aligns with family-centered values while meeting state education standards.
You Have a Choice.
The decisions you make now will shape your future — your education, your relationships, and your goals. Choices Matter gives you the facts you need to make the choice that’s best for you.
In class, we talk openly about how media, friends, and culture can influence what you think about relationships and sexual activity. You’ll learn how to spot myths, understand real-life consequences, and see why waiting until you’re in a committed relationship — ideally marriage — is the safest and healthiest decision.
You’ll also see what research shows:
• 79% of teens choose not to be sexually active.
• Many who became sexually active say they regret that decision later.
• Teens who wait experience fewer emotional and physical risks and more long-term success in relationships.
Our goal isn’t to scare you — it’s to empower you with truth. You’ll learn about:
• The benefits of abstinence — focus, freedom, and healthy goals.
• The risks of sexual activity, like STIs, pregnancy, emotional stress, and loss of trust.
• The facts about contraceptives, including their real-world failure rates.
Every person has the power to make their own decisions. Choices Matter helps you understand your options so you can make choices that align with your goals and values.
Think before you choose — because your choices really do matter.
